Do we buy "stuff" to make ourselves feel better?

Check out this article I found at dailygalaxy.com (from Digg) titled "The Consumer Paradox: Scientists Find that Low Self-Esteem and Materialsim Goes Hand in Hand".

(Note: there is some foul language in a Fight Club quotation.)

Scientists found that even a small step to raise a person's self-esteem can dramatically decrease your materialism, providing a way to cope with insecurity. The article also talks about adolescents and how materialism is a way to cope with low self-esteem.

So tell us: have you ever bought something to make yourself feel better about yourself? Did it work? Did that feeling last, or did you regret spending the money?

I agree with the article about the word (BELIEVE). That is what everybody's whole life is based on - what they believe. See I was like that too, had to have, or should use the famous quote "keeping up with the Jones" - all of the hottest clothes, shoes whatever. But still felt like @#$!. (Excuse my french but some people only respond when you talk their language, and God made me versatile. But anyway, it took for me to lose, to realize "hey i would not be here if i was not meant to be." You know what I'm sayin. See whoever reads this, you were meant to read this. My lord does not make mistakes. He does not fail. So if you feel the need to buy something because you feel down or like you are not worth anything, always remember you would have made it to see any of things you see, let alone be able to buy it. Ralph Tresavnt says it best: money can't buy you love, clothes can't buy you acceptance, jewlery will not give you purpose. Believe me I know...

Love yall
