Jumpstart your job search with 5 easy tips
Posted by FFAWN on May 3, 2008 10:56 AM
Are you looking to go back to work, but don't know how to start your job search? Check out this article from ThirdAge.com by Dawn Anfuso that gives five tips on going back to the workforce. It addresses the question for someone who has switched jobs a lot, which I think is pretty common these days.

I would also reemphasize the last point in the article: don't ever apologize for the time you took off (raising kids, taking care of parents, etc.). Be confident in the choices you make!

Has anyone else recently jumped back in to the workplace after taking time off? If so, we'd love to hear about any tips you have for other readers. Feel free to comment below. Thanks!

This isnt what i think is most helpful. I am a 25 year old single mother who last year made a big accomplishment. I received my Bachelors Degree last year and i was so excited, hoping that it would open news doors for me. Oops! it didnt. I was subjected to see that i wasnt hirable because I lacked experience. I will never get a chance, if no one gives me the opportunity. People have tried to help me with search aides, but it doesnt work. How do you gain confidence when you are laid off a job and have a lil boy to support?

Miss Krystal-- I completely understand what you are saying...here's the thing... Did you complete any internships while in school? If so, that right there is experience you can put into your resume. In the meantime, there are staffing companies that can help you get a job ( that you may or may not like) & you can work that job until you feel that you have gained enough experience to move forward or perhaps build your own company. You gain confidence in the workplace by knowing internally what you are capable of doing & pushing yourself. You don't have to work at Mickey Dee's with a degree making french fries, but you can work in the corporate office as an assistant so you can observe your boss & gain experience that way. Put yourself in situations that create opportunities.

I know it's tough with the little one, but as long as you're the example for him, then he knows he can succeed no matter life's curve balls...as long as you show him it's possible...and it is. Good luck!
