Help your children get ready for school
Posted by FFAWN on May 15, 2008 3:07 PM
Maybe you have children in the home that will be heading to school soon. Or maybe you have a newborn and you want to make sure he or she is prepared for the school world in a few years. Check out ReadyWeb (a collection of resources on school readiness sponsored by the ECAP Collaborative, College of Education, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign). Take a look at their Virtual Library page (complete with children's artwork!). It includes a ton of great articles with tips on getting your child prepared to handle their new environment at school.

Handy tools from iVillage help parents (and non-parents!) plan their lives, track their children, and swap for healthy foods
Posted by FFAWN on May 2, 2008 5:33 PM
Want some help coming up with healthy swaps for the unhealthy snacks that your kids usually want? Check out the handy "snack swapper" that the people over at iVillage have created. Simply select the unhealthy snack item (brownies, cheese puffs, etc) and it spits out a healthy alternative (like fudge pops or cheese rice cakes). Go ahead and use it for yourself, too (I did!).

Be sure to also check out iVillage's other nifty tools such as the Family Activity Calendar and the Development Tracker (for you to track the progress of your kids-- newborn through twelfth grade).
